Hi… I am sorry there have been no updates lately as I have been so busy with weddings and making my wedding show the complete package. I have done weddings from Beamish Hall, Newcastle to mega parties in millionaire’s backgardens. Also I have been privileged this year in also worked with lots of new,fabulous people including Paul Guard, The Key-Tars and my old mate.. the king of the swingers Howard Wing. I will be telling of all my summer adventures soon… until then… stay happy!

Two Extremes

Hi Guys, Sorry I have not blogged for a while,it has been a very busy time of year. I am just in the middle of having a brand new DJ table/lighting rig fabricated and even bigger and better lights to enhance and also personalize every event/wedding I will be working on. I hope to have this ready by the end of May. I have just come out of a fabulous weekend which really was a weekend of extremes regarding music. Friday nights wedding over at Springfield House saw the newly wed Mr and Mrs Beesly wanting over a solid hour of classic dance music from the late 90s. This included Darude Sandstorm, Ice Mc Boom Diggi Diggi and the brilliant DJ Alligator Blow My Whistle….the old house was really rocking and everyone involved really loved it including one elderly relative who was throwing some shapes on the dancefloor! On Saturday night I was working at The Longlands Hotel, Carnforth for a 60th birthday/ruby wedding anniversary for ace photographer Doug Armitage and his wife Janice. This was a dinner jacket/bow tie affair with a low profile image for me. Delicate lighting along with Andre Rieu playing his Orchestral hits in the background was the order of the night. Throughout the night music from The Greatest Musicals of All Time,classic swing music with some standard 70s floor fillers was played. The night finished off with Frank Sinatra New York mixed in with Andre Rieus Can Can/Firework finale. It was a brilliant end to a classical night earning rave revues from guests and staff at the hotel. I am now looking forward to a busy Easter period and to enjoy some of this lovely weather we are enjoying. Until the next time…..Keep Happy.

Big Lakeland Wedding

The Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge was the venue for my latest wedding up in the rainy Lake District. The Bride and Groom, Mel and Craig,the new Mr and Mrs Turner had my good friend Howard Wing entertaining them during the day. When I arrived Howard really had got the party started in his own,very polished,smooth way. I took over at around 9pm with a very lively set of music ranging from 1968s Build Me Up Buttercup by The Foundations to The Time by The Black Eyed Peas. One of the highlights of the evening was an impromptu dance off by two of the male wedding guests…dancing too Cant Touch This by MC Hammer. The Swan Hotel really did look spectacular with THE best sausage/bacon barmcake for night-time buffet I have EVER had! They were so big it made your arm ache lifting them up! My congratulations go out to Mel and Craig, you are a very loving couple,have a long and happy life together as Mr And Mrs Turner. New track of the week has to be………Hold It Against Me by Britney Spears,the girl is back on form with a surefire No 1 hit on her hands. Until the next time..keep happy!

Happy New Year to all my friends,past and present clients and last but not least future clients. It has been a very busy Christmas and New Year and January is looking just as busy….the way I like it! With all the Christmas festivities and an amazing New Years Eve night up at The Langdale Country Club and Hotel in Ellterwater out of the way it has been back to what I enjoy the most….weddings. This weekend saw me at Newton Hall working for Kay and Paul, the new Mr and Mrs Turner. Kay and Paul actually got married on New Years Eve at one of my favourite places, Springfield House followed by a wedding reception the following week at Newton Hall. Newton Hall is very impressive having been rebuilt after a major fire a few years ago. After a few speeches including Paul’s bestman and very young son’s Scotts speech (who gave a brilliant speech) we were treated to a few songs by a star in the making…Miss Megan Scot. Megan sung three songs,one of which was an Adele song and a brilliant rendition of Somebody To Love by Queen. Megan bought the house down with a first class vocal perfomance and a stage presence that I have never seen before in a 14 year old! Megan certainly has the X Factor and is one to look out for. A great night was had by all,everybody was up and partying which I adore! Big tunes that got the party going were Just Cant Get Enough by Depeche Mode and The Time by The Black Eyed Peas mixed in with the original Dirty Dancing mix. A new big tune to look out for this year has to be Move That Body by Nelly ft T-Pain and Akon. Anyone wanting to see me this Friday night coming I am on at The Ship And Royal In Lytham doing a pub Party night followed by a wedding up in The Lake District with my good friend and tthe King of Cool, Mr Howard Wing. The Stars Hit Blackpool.

Saturday November 20th saw me at The Strand Hotel on Blackpools famous promenade Dj ing for Helen McAlpine’s 30th birthday bash. This was a fancy dress party with a Hollywood/Oscars theme night. Everyone went to great lenghts to make some amazing outfits, the Tinman from The Wizard of Oz and Helen as Fay Wray from the King Kong movie with a giant ape hand around her waist looked superb. The music played was a mix of up to date tunes and some big 90s dance anthems. During the buffet,which is one of the best you can have on the Fylde coast, a nice mix of Michael Buble/swing music was played. After buffet Oscar trophies were given out to best male,female,couple and child in fancy dress then it was crank up the volume and bang out the hits! Arms of Loren by Evoke and Hideaway by Delacy really got the party going. A great night was had by all but I am still in shock after one of The Pink Laides from Grease who we shall call “Frenchie” to save her blushes did spend the night mooning at everyone! I have had a couple of sleepless nights since this unfortunate event but am getting over it now! Thankyou to the hard working guys at The Strand for looking after me and their hospitality,if anyone is looking for a hotel to hold an event in Blackpool give these guys a go….you will be pleasently suprised. Christmas is looming large now so until the next time….keep happy.

Jasons 40th Birthday Bash

On Saturday 30th October it was my good friend Mr Jason Meadows suprise 40th Birthday party at Cafe Zumo. Cafe Zumo is on the A6 towards Lancaster and is under new ownership It is a fabulous smaller venue with Carrie and the guys there looking after you. Jason arrived at just after 8pm and was amazed that Angela had managed to organize this behind his back. A very tasty,well presented buffet was followed by a night of tunes from every era! The one that really got the party going was The Devil Came Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band. A great night was had by everyone including myself,its so nice to see good friends having a good time. Track of the week has to be The Time by The Black Eyed Peas, a definate number 1 for them. Top tip for the Christmas No 1 has to be Surfin (the bird ) by Family Guy.

Springfield House Party.

October has been a busy month behind the scenes for me,a brand new light and laser show has now been added to my excellent sound system. Saturday October 9th saw me over at Springfield House for my good friend Eric Winstons 70th birthday party. Eric had a big turn out for his party including his son and grandson who had flown over from Canada just for the party. A great night of classic oldies followed including I Love To Boogie by T-Rex and Have I Told You Lately That I Love You by Rod Stewart which got the dancing off to a flying start. I big thankyou has to go out to Leisha and all the guys at Springfield House for their first class service and most delicious food. A new up and coming track to look out for has to be Firework by Katy Perry,a very apt title for a song being released just before Bonfire Night! Until the next time….be safe,keep happy.

Australian Wedding

What a fantastic three weeks I have just had over in Singapore,New Zealand and ultimately in Sydney,Australia for the wedding of my good friends, Karen and Frank, the new Mr and Mrs Glass. Their ceremony took place at the sumptuous Tea Rooms, Gunners Barracks,George Heights over looking Sydney Harbour. I was honoured to be their Master of Ceremonies at this fabulous venue which saw the very happy couple get married in a moving ceremony at 5.00pm. After the cermony we were treated to an amazing wedding breakfast after which we had the speeches. Karens dad, Bob, who was rather nervous gave a great speech to get things on the way. Second in the firing line was the main man, Frank,who gave a very emotional speech and melted just about everybodies heart in the room. Last but not least, Big Steve who in my humble opinion gave one of the funniest best mans speeches I have ever witnessed. This was followed with dancing through till midnight with Lyndsey and his tunes. The guys really got dancing to some classic old tunes including NutBush City Limits by Tina Turner. The night was finished off by Karen and Frank having their farewell dance to the brilliantly funny In Spite Of Ourselves by John Prine and Iris DeMent. A great day was had by all and a special metion must go to David Gregory and all the guys working at the Tea Rooms for their hospitality shown towards me,for letting me use their equipment and in house system and the way they just let the whole night flow the way it did. A great night for a great couple.

Happy Birthdays

I have just had a fabulous weekend with two very different types of birthdays. On Friday night I was over at Norcross Social Club helping Andy Smith celebrate his 30th Birthday. The night started off quietly so people can talk and say there hellos, plenty of Andy’s friends were there. After the excellent buffet provided by Andy’s mum, Andy said his thank yous……twice….after which we dropped the lights, cranked up the volume and got the party going. I was instructed by Andy NOT to play I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas or Loveshack by The B52s. The girls took over the dance floor asking for hits such as 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton. My very last song of the evening after being pestered all night for them was a special I Gotta A Feeling / Loveshack mix for Andy! It was a great night and I wish Andy all the best for the future.

Saturday

Saturday 21st August saw me at The Ashley Conservative Club in Thornton to help Bob Peel celebrate his 70th birthday with his family and friends. This was a lot more laid back, quieter affair but still a lovely night for all concerned. When I am working on a party such as a 70th my lights are not used as much,the volume control is a lot quieter than usual as people like to hold conversation and I usually play quite a few more slower songs than I usually do. Throughout the night I played the odd waltz/foxtrot and slower songs such as Have I Told You Lately That I Love You by Rod Stewart and Something About The Way You Look Tonight by Elton John. Plenty of Northern Soul was also played such as The Snake by Al Wilson and Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy by The Tams. Towards the end when I was left with Bobs younger members of the family we cranked the volume up and I put together a Sash Mix and a few more dance tunes. Its always nice to do an older party where you have to really think what types of music to play, hardly playing any songs recorded over the past ten years. It was a great night and I would like to wish Bob and his new partner a happy life together.

My Blast From The Past track this week must be The Tams Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy. My Breaking Track of the week is Roll Deep and Green Light, another number 1 hit for them I think.

Australia
